Rhythm With A Pinch Of Something          Lyssna

Jean-Simon Maurin - piano

Martin Lundberg - bas
Lars "Bagarn" Andersson - trummor

In a perfect world, jazz would have occupied a large area of society’s media scene. Instrumentalists, as well as vocalists, could become “celebrities”, and new, young jazz-talent would be seen and heard far and wide. There would be room for well- established, as well as new artists, touring the country and developing their music. Well, the world is not exactly perfect. Still, Sweden is swarming with high standard jazz- musicians and a new generation in their 20’s is now emerging. How many of you have ever heard of Jean-Simon Maurin? No? Well, it is a name to remember. Here is a young man right in the middle of a fantastic development that may very well lead to unimaginable heights. Seriously and effi ciently, during a period of two years, Jean-Simon has worked with his trio and with his own compositions in order to reach deeper and deeper into the core of expression. When Bill Evans got the question ”How did you develop into the extraordinary musician you are today?” he simply answered “through years of hard work.” The trio that you are about to listen to is imbued with that same attitude. I have had the privilege of teaching Jean-Simon. First, when he, as a young teenager, looked me up when I had just recently graduated from the Malmö Conservatory of Music. Later, when he, then himself a student at the IE-jazz department (also at Malmö Conservatory of Music), again contacted me. Here is a pianist who has something to say and who urges you to listen. Mere attitude means nothing, the smoke screen is withdrawn, there is nothing to prove. This is Jean-Simon Maurin.
